Mysterious overvoltage arresters types B + C or B + C + D
The purpose of SPD (Surge Protective Device) is to protect electric power systems and equipment against lightning induced surges, switching surges in power system and direct influence of lightning current. For several years, designers and installers have been offered in cataloques SPD types B + C, B + C + D, or class I + II, I + II + III. Initially the use of these products and symbols can be justified requirements of German standards and absence of national standards. Currently it is not in compliance with the standards. This article presents the basic information on the overvoltage protective properties of the SPD, their tasks, places of installation and the required range of research.
