Protection against electric shock in installations powered by combustion engine driven generating sets

s. 48-69 DOI:

Abstract

Diesel-electric generating sets may feed temporary or permanent installations and networks not connected to the electricity grid. They can also serve as standby power supply source. According to their destination, mode of operation, construction, rated power and environmental conditions of work, there are different requirements for installation, its equipment and protection against electric shock. In temporary installations supplied by mobile generating sets most appropriate are protection measures that do not require checking loop impedance value and not require any earthing electrode. Are also useful protection measures for which earthing resistance 50 or 100 ohms is sufficiently good. Polish standards and rules on this subject are incomplete, so foreign and international normative documents have been used in this paper. The loop impedance values have to be verified only in TN-S installations without residual current circuit-breakers.
